What is a Water Well?

A water well is a carefully engineered structure that taps into underground water sources, known as aquifers or water veins. It consists of a borehole drilled into the ground, lined with a casing, and equipped with a pump to bring water to the surface. Wells provide a sustainable and independent water supply for drinking, irrigation, and other needs.

Step 1: Site Assessment & Preparation

Before drilling begins, our team conducts a thorough site assessment to determine the best location for your well. This involves:

  • Geological Surveys: We study the geology of your property to identify potential water sources.
  • Water Table Analysis: We assess the depth of the water table to estimate how deep we’ll need to drill.
  • Permitting: We ensure all necessary permits are obtained to comply with local regulations.

Once the site is selected, a pad will be cleared to be able to set up the drilling rig.

Step 2: Drilling the Borehole

Drilling is the most critical phase of the process. Here’s how it works:

1. Choosing the Right Equipment

  • We use a drilling rig equipped with a powerful motor and a specialized drill bit. The type of bit depends on the geology of your area—soft soil, hard rock, or a mix of both.

2. Starting the Drilling Process

  • The drill bit is attached to a drill stem, which is rotated and pushed into the ground by the rig.
  • As the drill penetrates the earth, we add additional sections of drill stem to reach greater depths.

3. Drilling Through Layers

  • The drill passes through various layers of soil, rock, and sediment.
  • In softer soils, we use ring bits that will drill the bore hole and pull steel casing down with it at the same time to keep the bore hole open.
  • In harder rock formations, we use air percussion drilling, which involves hammering the rock to break it apart.

4. Installing the Casing

  • As we drill, we install a well casing—a sturdy pipe that lines the borehole to prevent collapse and keep out contaminants.
  • The casing is typically made of PVC or steel and is secured in place with bentonite.

5. Reaching the Aquifer/Water Veins

  • We continue drilling until we reach the aquifer or water veins, the underground layer that holds water.
  • Once the aquifer/water vein is reached, we test the water yield to ensure it can meet your needs.

Step 3: Well Development

After drilling, we prepare the well for use through a process called well development. This involves:

  • Flushing the Well: We pump air into the well to remove any debris or fine particles left from drilling.
  • Testing Water Flow: We measure the well’s flow rate to ensure it can provide an adequate supply of water.

Step 4: Pump Installation

With the well drilled and developed, we install a pump to bring water to the surface. Here’s how:

  • Choosing the Right Pump: Depending on the well’s depth and water needs, we install a submersible pump.
  • Installing the Pump: The pump is carefully lowered into the well and connected to a power source.
  • Adding a Pressure Tank: We install a pressure tank that will go down the well casing below frost level to prevent from freezing.

Step 5: Connecting to Your Home

Once the pump is installed, we connect the well to your home’s plumbing system. This includes:

  • Installing Pipes: We run pipes from the well to your home, ensuring a seamless water supply.
  • Adding a Filtration System: If needed, we install a water filtration system to ensure the water is clean and safe for drinking.

Step 6: Testing & Commissioning

Before handing over the well, we conduct final tests to ensure everything is working perfectly. This includes:

  • Checking Water Pressure: We ensure the system provides consistent water pressure.
  • Testing Water Quality: We test the water for contaminants and ensure it meets safety standards.
  • Providing Maintenance Tips: We give you tips on how to maintain your well for long-term performance.
